Battersea’s reunion day

Monday, September 17th, 2012

LoveMyDog’s Creative Director Lilly Shahravesh was one of the judges at Battersea’s recent reunion day.

Held at Battersea Park, the day was great fun with lots of people out to enjoy the weather and support the great work Battersea does in rehoming so many dogs and cats.

Joining Lilly in the ‘Handsomest Dog Category’ was Battersea’s vet Phil (recognise him from the telly?), Fiona (a nutritionist from Burns) and a Pearly King & Queen. The final judge was David Levy from The Stafford Magazine, who is also a judge of championship shows.

The winning dog was a gorgeous fawn coloured staffie called Scully. Congratulations Scully!

Spitalfield’s Paw Pageant

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

Rabbit and the team at LoveMyDog would like to say a massive thank you to all those who came along to support Spitalfield’s 2012 Paw Pageant on Monday. The event was in aid of Battersea Dogs and Cats home who do a fantastic job reuniting lost dogs and cats, or caring for them until new homes can be found.

We were supported on Twitter by some famous dog lovers, including Jonathan Ross, Chris O’Dowd, Gabby Logan and Lisa Snowdon.

The Paw Pageant opened up with the LoveMyDog A/W dog fashion show. In total we had 18 pretty pooches and handsome hounds modelling for us, representing breeds from Miniature Dachshunds (brothers Ted & Keith) to Great Dane father and son, Bellamy & Puppy.

The Paw Pageant followed and was judged by Anna Webb (BBC Barking at the moon), Sara White from StyleTails and LoveMyDog’s creative director Lilly Shahravesh.

Congratulations to Flora the Akita, who won ‘Best Bitch in the Ditch’, and Betty the Bulldog whose raffle ticket won her a hamper filled with £1000 worth of LoveMyDog canine couture goodies.

Help rehome Rory

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Handsome Rory became an international star when he helped England footballer Michael Owen carry the Olympic Flame through Battersea’s London centre.

Rory was selected to help Michael because he’s such a friendly, happy boy who loves being with people. He enjoys staying active, so loved the opportunity to run and walk alongside Michael as he carried the Torch. The pair walked past a doggy Guard of Honour of 50 Battersea dogs, and Rory was impeccably behaved as he strolled along in his blue Battersea coat.

While his new owners won’t need an Olympic Torch to keep Rory entertained, he is looking for a home where he will be kept busy and receive lots of love. He quickly won over Michael, who tweeted a photo of Rory to his 1.5 million followers, saying: “I’d love to take this Staffie home but I don’t think my current dogs would have it! May ask one of my family!”

Do you have space in your family for lovable Rory? More details are avaialable from Battersea here.

Reggie’s hero

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

When Reggie arrived at Battersea’s London site, it was clear that this friendly and trusting animal had been previously forced into dog fighting. Liz McWalter, Head of Intake at Battersea says: “From the many scars on Reggie’s face, it’s very likely that he has been involved in some kind of chain fighting, where dogs are forced to fight whilst being kept on a lead. His coat was also dirty which could indicate he had been living outside”.

Ali Taylor, Battersea’s Head of Canine Welfare and Training explains: “When he arrived he received a thorough assessment, and it was especially important in his case to see how he interacted around other dogs. But despite his awful start in life, Reggie showed everyone here what a sweet and affectionate dog he is and considering what he’s been through, he seems happy and friendly with other dogs.

Thanks to a campaign by Battersea to find “Reggie’s hero”, he is now enjoying life in Romford, after he was adopted by a wonderful new family, who are able to give him the lovely and relaxed life he deserves. He is a true example of how Staffies are softer than you think; he is friendly and gentle, even after all he has been through.
