It’s all part of the Hidden Art Open Studios event. I’ll be there with Lilly and there’ll also be some sample bargains and a few of last season’s designs at a fraction of the usual price. Come along on 27th or 28th November or 3rd-5th December from 12pm – 5pm. The address, in fashionable Hoxton, is 36 Ermine Mews, Laburnum Street, London E2 8BF (press 336 bell for buzzer entry).

See you there – I’ll save some dog treats for you.

Red Tartan Harris Tweed collection launches

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Spoil your pooch with brand new Red Tartan Harris Tweed collection from Love My Dog. Featuring a dog collar, dog lead, dog coat, dog blanket and a dog bed the new range is the work of Creative Director Lilly Shahravesh.

The new Red Tartan Harris Tweed Collection from Love My Dog

The Love My Dog Red Tartan Harris Tweed cloth is a new and exclusive tartan design. It’s 100% authentic, and woven in the Hebridean Islands by weavers who have passed their skills down from generation to generation. All items in the new collection are then hand finished in Love My Dog’s London studio.

“When I first learnt about the process of genuine Harris Tweed and what it actually entailed I was amazed. There is a fantastic history and heritage of this cloth and I realised how important it was to support and celebrate this. Its great to respect that process and produce a handmade collection of such a high standard and quality” Lilly Shahravesh, Creative Director of Love My Dog.

Genuine Harris Tweed

Harris Tweed has been described as “the Champagne of fabrics” and is the only fabric in the world governed by its own Act of Parliament. Genuine Harris Tweed must be made from pure virgin wool. This wool is both dyed and spun on the Hebridean Islands, before being hand woven at the home of the weaver.

Today, Harris Tweed is the only hand woven fabric produced in commercial quantities. The yarn production process uses specially blended yarns produced to secret recipes and then warped before being sent to weavers homes to be hand woven by means of skills which have been handed down from generation to generation. The cloth is then returned to the mill to be finished to very high standards and the final stage in the process is examination and certification by the Independent Harris Tweed Authority.

Tweed coats for dogs

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Today we are cutting the Thornproof fabric for the tweed coats which are all handmade in the UK. Our tweed fabric is woven in Scotland and originally worn by landowners and shepherds with yarn spun from the wool of the Cheviot sheep. Lilly likes using natural fabrics as they are hard wearing compared to the cheaper man made acrylics as they keep your pets warmer and with fabrics like wool they are even shower proof.

Our favourite dog music video

Monday, September 20th, 2010

OK Go, known for using treadmills and other complicated machines in their viral music videos have now turned to dogs for ‘White Knuckles’. It’s a current favourite in our studio.

Lauren Henry, the owner of Talented Animals and head animal trainer for this video, was brought in to make the canine choreography a reality. “They needed to enjoy it,” says Henry. “Otherwise there’s no way you’re going to drag a dog out there and have them do the same action again and again, day after day.”

“We spent a lot of time playing with them … Each behavior is part of a whole game they’re playing,” she explains. “For instance: the dogs running around people’s legs at the beginning. Riot, the little dog on the left, I would have her go around the chair and then I’d throw the ball. Then I would have her go her around the chair twice, and then throw the ball. And then three times, and then add the person.”

Unlikely London inspiration?

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Popped out of the studio for 5 minutes earlier and took a double take at the ground. I thought the colours of London’s Hackney Road drying could work perfectly for Autumn/Winter.
