Red Tartan Harris Tweed collection launches

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Spoil your pooch with brand new Red Tartan Harris Tweed collection from Love My Dog. Featuring a dog collar, dog lead, dog coat, dog blanket and a dog bed the new range is the work of Creative Director Lilly Shahravesh.

The new Red Tartan Harris Tweed Collection from Love My Dog

The Love My Dog Red Tartan Harris Tweed cloth is a new and exclusive tartan design. It’s 100% authentic, and woven in the Hebridean Islands by weavers who have passed their skills down from generation to generation. All items in the new collection are then hand finished in Love My Dog’s London studio.

“When I first learnt about the process of genuine Harris Tweed and what it actually entailed I was amazed. There is a fantastic history and heritage of this cloth and I realised how important it was to support and celebrate this. Its great to respect that process and produce a handmade collection of such a high standard and quality” Lilly Shahravesh, Creative Director of Love My Dog.

Genuine Harris Tweed

Harris Tweed has been described as “the Champagne of fabrics” and is the only fabric in the world governed by its own Act of Parliament. Genuine Harris Tweed must be made from pure virgin wool. This wool is both dyed and spun on the Hebridean Islands, before being hand woven at the home of the weaver.

Today, Harris Tweed is the only hand woven fabric produced in commercial quantities. The yarn production process uses specially blended yarns produced to secret recipes and then warped before being sent to weavers homes to be hand woven by means of skills which have been handed down from generation to generation. The cloth is then returned to the mill to be finished to very high standards and the final stage in the process is examination and certification by the Independent Harris Tweed Authority.

Hair of the dog

Based off Brick Lane opposite Spitalfields in London, The Golden Heart is a dog friendly pub that we and our muse Rabbit love. It’s famous for the eccentric landlady and is a favourite hang out for local artists & celebs, so dont be surprised to find Tracy Emin or Kate Moss standing next to you having a pint!

This is a photo of the resident dog who is always dozing away. For some reason there is a corgi cut out behind his bed and he sits outside the Ladies loo. Does anyone know his name? Let us know your ideas by leaving a comment.

If you want to find a dog friendly pub near you, or want to let others know about your favourite local then www.doggiepubs.org.uk is well worth a visit.

Sunday Times Style

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

I had a lovely surprise when I got back from Italy last week after checking out some amazing leather for our new dog collars & leads. A friend informed me that a Love My Dog toy bone had been featured in a Sunday Times Style magazine supplement over the weekend.

Tweed coats for dogs

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Today we are cutting the Thornproof fabric for the tweed coats which are all handmade in the UK. Our tweed fabric is woven in Scotland and originally worn by landowners and shepherds with yarn spun from the wool of the Cheviot sheep. Lilly likes using natural fabrics as they are hard wearing compared to the cheaper man made acrylics as they keep your pets warmer and with fabrics like wool they are even shower proof.

Dog sweaters to be seen in this Autumn

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Lilly Shahravesh has just designed two brand new dog sweaters for Love My Dog. Available in Sunshine Yellow and Pumpkin Orange, these high quality designer dog jumpers will keep your precious pooch warm and even dry if caught in a light shower (unlike acrylic). Add in our existing Chunky Red cable sweater and you have perfect pooch wardrobe essentials for Autumn.

Love My Dog sweaters are both one hundred per cent natural pure wool and soft to touch (for both you and your loved one). What’s more, fashion and style experts New York Magazine announced this week that orange will be the ‘it’ colour for Spring 2011. Not to say we set trends or anything…

Our favourite dog music video

Monday, September 20th, 2010

OK Go, known for using treadmills and other complicated machines in their viral music videos have now turned to dogs for ‘White Knuckles’. It’s a current favourite in our studio.

Lauren Henry, the owner of Talented Animals and head animal trainer for this video, was brought in to make the canine choreography a reality. “They needed to enjoy it,” says Henry. “Otherwise there’s no way you’re going to drag a dog out there and have them do the same action again and again, day after day.”

“We spent a lot of time playing with them … Each behavior is part of a whole game they’re playing,” she explains. “For instance: the dogs running around people’s legs at the beginning. Riot, the little dog on the left, I would have her go around the chair and then I’d throw the ball. Then I would have her go her around the chair twice, and then throw the ball. And then three times, and then add the person.”

Keeping dogs dry in style

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

As summer draws to a close, exercising the dog can lose a little bit of its magic when you’re faced with wet & windy walks. Whilst the thought of the new Autumn/Winter fashion collections are a big comfort in the changing seasons, there is another way to bring some colour into both you and your dog’s life.

Stylish and practical, the Fisherman’s Mac is a designer dog coat from Love My Dog. It keeps your pooch snug and dry, but best of all the cheerful bright yellow of this raincoat helps you spot your loved one no matter where they’re sniffing around in the park!

Essential doggy fashion wear for those autumn showers. The Fisherman’s Mac is available in 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 inch coat sizes. This designer dog coat is machine-washable, easy to use and light to pack.

Unlikely London inspiration?

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Popped out of the studio for 5 minutes earlier and took a double take at the ground. I thought the colours of London’s Hackney Road drying could work perfectly for Autumn/Winter.

What do you think?
